Yattodetaman is part of the Time Bokan anime series. Its a slap stick comedy which appears to aim at kids. But what's weird is that there were some very brief nudity scenes. In the anime, there were two mechas - one is a pegasus (Daitenba) and a robot (Daikyozin). They combine to form a mecha centaur (Daibazin)

Anyway, back to the toy. This is the boxset which has both the mechas. These toys were also sold separately.

Check out the beautiful box art.

And look at the beautiful cardboard insert! My specimen is still in very good condition. The set is complete except for missing missiles. The seller did gave me some missiles but they were wrong missiles meant for other robots. Luckily I found 2 of the correct missiles. So technically, the toy has all its accessories.

There are a lot to unpack. Let's start with the mecha pegasus - Daitenba.

The body of the horse (except the top cover) is made of diecast-metal.

It has a funny looking horse face.

The red wings are attached separately.

And you can mount the missile launcher to the front of the horse.

Play Gimmick 1 - Launching missiles. The missile launcher shoots 2 grey missiles. My specimen shooting feature still works great after so many years!

The horse's legs are on ratcheted joints at the top. The middle and bottom hooves are articulated but friction held. Daibazin can stand on 3 legs! Pretty cool display pose!

Play gimmick 2 - Transforming to Tank Mode

The wheels and tank treads connect to the legs.

You can have a horse with wheels...

....or another version is to hide the head. Flip open the top cover. Slide and flip the horse head down.

....and add the missile launcher to fully transform it into a tank.

Okay, it looks weird but hey this is the 80s. Mecha designs are weird in those days!

Okay.....we 'll talk about its counterpart Daikyozin and also the combined form in the next blog!
