VINTAGE 1982-83 KENNER THE ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES COLLECTION PART 1 (UPDATED 2 JUL)

Indiana Jones is an iconic movie from the 1980s. Sadly there are not many toys released despite its popularity and huge fan base. In 1982 Kenner released an Indiana Jones toy line that lasted only 2 waves. Since it is a small toy line, it should be an easy collection to complete right? Wrong! Today. Kenner's Indy toy line is one of the most expensive and sought after toys in the secondary market!

I had intention to get Indiana Jones with his Arabian horse and also the Well of Souls playset for many years.

What is stopping me is the ridiculously high price even for loose figures.

And the price keep increasing year by year.

I gave up hope of ever owning them.

Then the 'unexpected' happen.

I was in a toy shop and I saw a 2008 Hasbro Indiana Jones Cargo truck. I bought that and the shop owner asked if I am interested in vintage Indiana jones toys. I thought he was referring to other 2008 Hasbro Indy toys but when he pulled out a box of vintage Kenner Indiana Jones, I was stunned - and yes I bought them. It's still quite expensive and this is perhaps my biggest investment in a toy lot.

In the lot, there's 8 figures and the rare Arabian horse! Let's check them out!

There're two Indy in the lot. One is complete and one is not.

Indy have a hook on his hip for the whip.

And he has a working holster for his revolver.

And both Indy have unbroken thumbs! (this figure is notoriously known to have broken thumbs) And the 'quick draw' action feature still works.

Next in the lot is Marion Ravenwood with monkey. Figure is missing her stand. the condition of this figure is beautiful with little paint wear. Marion is one of the rarest and most sought after figure in the line - making her quite expensive.

Next is Cairo swordsman with sword and dagger.

Toht - the German baddie with coat. He is missing his pistol. His right hand has the burnt mark.

German Mechanic with wrench. The most boring figure but Indy need a bad guy to fight.

Indy's friend - Sallah with torch. His robe has yellowed.

Finally - the Arabian horse. The toy that is on my wish list. The legs has yellowed unfortunately.

Here's the extra Indy with horse.

The horse features galloping action by pressing a button on its body. This gimmick still works!

The Arabian horse is also one of the highly sought after toy in this line. Indy figure fits perfectly on his horse.

Final piece in the lot - Belloq in ceremonial gear. This is a mail away exclusive and it is still sealed in baggie.

The story behind the collection - the previous owner of this collection passed away in 2019 before the covid-19 lock down. According to the toy shop seller, he has a large collection of vintage toys like Kenner's Star Wars and newer toys like Marvel Legends etc. His mom sold the collection cheaply to a few of these resellers. So sad. According to this seller, he paid a reasonable price and also did a profit sharing with the lady for some other items.

This reminds me again that when we leave this life, we can't take a single thing with us.

So - Enjoy life, be happy and keep a record of toys and its value.

UPDATE 2 JULY 2022

I got the loose Indiana Jones in German Uniform and Belloq figure when I went to the toy shop to get the Well of Souls playset. Now I have all the figures carded as well as loose.

Indiana Jones in German Uniform comes with a rocket launcher.. Oops!..I pose the figure with his weapon wrongly, the rocket launcher should be on Indy's shoulder.
