VINTAGE 1980s KENNER STAR WARS ROTJ JEDI LUKE VARIATION AND BOBA FETT

29 May 2022

Kenner's Jedi Luke was the first ever Star Wars figure my mom got for me. She asked me to picked one and I picked the hero (obviously) with the most accessories. Luke Jedi comes with cape, lightsaber and blaster.

My Luke came with a green saber. But my brother pointed out to me the photo of figures to "collect'em all" behind the cardback, that Luke Jedi figure had a blue saber! I didn't think too much about it. As a kid, who cares about variation.

I love this figure and as a kid I kept the figure in the bubble

and card after playing. But one day after coming back from school,

I saw the figure on the floor. Mom told me the neighbour came for a visit

and their pre-school kid came played with my Jedi Luke figure

and lost the accessories. I was damn mad!!

Many years later, I acquired a mint on card Luke Jedi and also a loose one to display. The loose Luke Jedi didn't come with his lightsaber.

Then I learnt that there was indeed a Luke Jedi with blue saber. I also found out that there are Luke that comes with a snap cape. And one final variation, Luke Jedi came with an unpainted face. Wow! Pic below is the regular cape Jedi Luke with its accessories.

I manged to hunt down a Luke with snap cape and green saber. Snap cape means there's a snap button sewed on the cape. This variation was pricey. But I wasn't satisfied. I wanted the Luke with the blue saber. So the hunt continues. The selling price for the blue saber Luke was beyond my reach. So over time I've forgotten about it. That was until 2 weeks ago.

Two weeks ago I bought a lot of vintage Kenner figures (which I'll blog about it in future). In the lot there's a ROTJ Boba Fett cardback with semi attached bubble and incomplete vintage Endor Luke with blue lightsaber! I can't believe it! The original blue lightsaber! Now the snap cape Jedi Luke wields the blue lightsaber and his green saber is passed to the regular cape Jedi Luke. Both figures are now complete!

Luckily both my Jedi Luke nose have no paint chips. Nose paint chip is common problem for this figure. That's why some collectors hunt for the molded face variation.

The Boba Fett cardback acquired in the lot is in pristine condition. It is unpunched and the bubble is still clear. It's previous owner is one 'Jaime Ng' who place his name sticker on the front of card and two stickers - 'Star Wars" and 'NEL25.06.83' on the back.. I presumed the date was when the figure was purchased by the original owner

Luckily I have a complete vintage Kenner Boba Fett. He looks fantastic inside the bubble!

I am pretty happy to finally complete the Jedi Lukes and gave my loose Boba a cardback. These toys are very expensive on the secondary market. Check out eBay SOLD items for price range.
