This is an interesting find. A 1978 Japanese diecast X-wing fighter by Takara. I know Takara had a diecast Darth Vader which is on my wish list, diecast C3PO and diecast R2D2 and some other Star Wars stuff but I haven't seen this before. Checked online but couldn't find much info on this toy. What captured my attention was the uniqueness of the toy - The wings actually fires missiles!
Let's check out the box! The box has seen better days.

But the good news is - the toy is complete!

It comes with
a) 4 x missiles
b) micro Artoo unit (easily lost piece!)
c) display stand
d) X-wing fighter
The body of the X-wing is made of diecast metal.

The landing gears are also made of diecast metal.

Gimmick 1 - Firing Missiles
Only the top wings have the missile launcher. The launching gimmick still works.

Gimmick 2 - Removable Artoo unit
The Artoo figure is super small! It's made of plastic.

Gimmick 3 - Opening cockpit canopy

Gimmick 4 - Dual display options. Flying & landing. The ship comes with a display stand.

Gimmick 5 - Opening & Closing Wings - with the push of the back button on the X-wing.

The toy gimmicks (play features) are pretty standard. What makes this unique is the missile launchers which is molded in black, similar to the vintage Kenner's X-wing. The toy also has lots of details molded.

This is a very nice display piece. Recommended for diehard Star Wars collectors or if you want an iconic Star Wars collectible ship from the 1970s .
