When I got hold of this toy, I can't believe how heavy it is! I bought this to sell but after checking this toy out and reading the history of Space Battleship Yamato, I decided to keep this piece of toy history. Check out the beautiful box art. This version scale is 1/1300. Nomura did make a bigger version of this toy (scale 1:850).

Behind the box looks like a blueprint of Yamato.

There are no instruction sheet on my specimen. The 2 play gimmicks instruction is illustrated on the box.

The styrofoam cover of my specimen has broken in two. Included is the Yamato battleship, the display stand and three super small fighter jets called Space Attack Fighter Cosmo Tiger II.

Play features - swivel front and back canons

Check out the detailed sculpt. I am surprised and happy that this toy despite being 47 years old, have little paint wear. It is super heavy too, my guess is that 98% of the toy is diecast metal. Only the swivel canons and antennas and bridge are plastic. The display base and the Cosmo Tigers are made of plastic too.

Play features 2 - Pop out wings. There's a small red button below the ship, press it and two side wings pops out. This function still works in my specimen.

At the belly of the ship, there's a small hatch that opens for the Cosmo tigers to fly out. There are no launching gimmick sadly.

Overall this is a beautiful display piece. The play features are quite lame compared to other toys at the time. But the heftiness, beautiful sculp and brilliant paint job makes it worth the price. Definitely recommend it whether you are a Chogokin collector or a fan of Space Battleship Yamato.

My specimen is missing the cardboard backdrop below. Don't mind that coz the main item is mint complete.
There's a reissue of this toy in 1998. It comes in a window box. Another note - all the pictures online of Cosmo Tigers II are molded in red but mine all are molded in black. The display stand is molded in white/beige but mine is darker color. Hmm...is mine a later version or earlier version?

UPDATE - 19 AUGUST 2022
I've been searching online for a nice scan of the backdrop but couldn't find any.
After many months, I seek my friend who's a Graphic Designer for help and he helped me get a nice picture of the backdrop. I've printed it on cardboard and am pretty happy with the result. Now it looks complete.
