PLAYMATES LEGENDARY DEFENDER VOLTRON DIECAST METAL (UPDATED 28 MAY 2022)

This is just a quick and short blog. The Legendary Defenders Voltron diecast set has been around for a few years already. I only managed to get the set recently from Japan. There is not a lot to talk about this set because this is basically the shrunk down version of the bigger Playmates LD Voltron.

Once assembled, it stands about 8" tall. The lions feels light despite having diecast content. The transformation steps is the same as the bigger version. Unfortunately, it only comes with a shield and sword.

Playmates cancelled this toyline abruptly due to poor retail sales. The price for this set had increased steadily over the years. Nowadays the asking price for a complete set is about USD200-299 in eBay. And its getting harder to find. I wouldn't recommend it. For that price, you probably can get the bigger LD Voltron version which have more play features.

UPDATE 28 MAY 2022

I found a loose specimen of this diecast LD Voltron from a local toy store. It's missing the sword and there's a crack on the Green Lion's connector. This set could be a factory over stock or rejects or even a KO. But it looks and feels like the original.

The seller gave me an alternative sword. The color of the sword or red and black does match the LD Voltron.

The leg joints are loose on the lions.

One weakness of this toy is the loose knee joints. With the diecast metal content, the figure is top heavy. The small knee joints can barely hold the figure - at least on my specimen.

His arms joints are pretty loose. There's risk of breakage if transform too often. The seller told me he ordered 20 sets and all of the Green lion have the same cracked joints problem.

My verdict is still the same - not recommended. Buy the bigger 16" version.
