1976 VINTAGE POPY CHOGOKIN DX GA-37 UFO (SPACER) & GRENDIZER ( aka GOLDORAK or GOLDRAKE)

This is the third most expensive vintage robot toy I've invested so far. (The most expensive being the Popy DX Golion and second the Godaikin Daltanias). This completes my Go Nagai's trio vintage robot collection focus - Mazinger, Great Mazinger and finally UFO Grendizer! If compared to average eBay asking price for a complete with box specimen, (price ranges USD1.5K-2.3K), I guess this is a good deal coz I got it way less than those prices.

There are not much info of this in the net. Based on some samples I've seen, I think my specimen is a later version as it features firing yellow missiles at the sides of the UFO. (more on this later) If you guys know, do leave a comment!

Picture of the Internal mechanics of the UFO! Nice!

My specimen is missing the Popy catalog and instructions sheet but have complete accessories.

There are obvious paint wear in the figure which is common. Pic below - Grendizer is all diecast except for the yellow horns and firing fist buttons.

Now the bad news - the firing fist keeps doesn't stay on the arms. After a long time trying, I finally got the right fist attached (see pic) and it seems this is the only way it can attach to the right arm. The left arm is worse. The fist keeps popping off and after many frustrating attempts, finally got the fist in. But the fists will shoot off at the slightest 'bump'.

Got to move the Grendizer super gently to take these photos.

Now for the UFO (Spacer). The UFO is completely made of plastic.

Luckily nothing broken here and the spring mechanism that pops open the back part of the spacer still works.

The firing mechanism works too.

This version of spacer doesn't have firing drill missiles and spinning disks. (I've seen some Shogun Warriors version that have the firing missile & disks function.) The drill missile and spinning disk are molded inside instead.

Now the firing missiles is located at both sides of the UFO.

Close up of the cockpit.

Docking the UFO! (I can't get the fist to stay on, so will do the shooting fists pose)

This is probably how I am going to display him if I still can't find a way to fix the fists issue.

This may not be the best fix. I slide a tiny piece of paper in the fists and .....

...voila! It works. The fists are still sensitive to the touch but at least it will stay in place.

Now he can hold the Harkens upright!

Despite it flaws, I am happy to own this.Another toy on my wish list checked! This set always pops up on eBay but many are incomplete.. And if you find a complete set with box, the price is really the killer. But if you are patient, you may find a good deal.
