Had a family trip to HK this school holiday. I tried my luck to source for vintage Japanese robot toys and the good news is I found all of them. The bad news is I didn't buy any of them, as it is really overpriced. It's more expensive than getting from eBay!

This trip I bought only a few stuff, here's the group shot.

Let's start with my least favorite - SOC Great Mazinger. I got this at a bargain. It is complete with some accessories still sealed in baggies and an unused sticker.

There's only 2 problem - Mazinger left hand racheted joints is 'broken' and the right leg fins doesn't pop out.

Mazinger left arm can still pose even though the racheted joints is sort of broken.

The elbow joints are loose too.

When you tilt the feet, the fins on his calf are supposed to pop out. Picture below you'll see only the left leg's fin is out.

Manually, you can still get the fins out.

Disappointed because of the joints issue. Otherwise this is a good bargain.

I've wanted the Hotwheels Ecto 1 for a long time but was unwilling to pay Scalpel price (about RM100) here. Glad to be able to found a twin pack at a really good price (about RM30!! only)

This 50th Anniversary Ultraman is also on my wish list, thought of buying it later. Found it in HK which is about RM100 cheaper than retail price here!!

This is another 50th anniversary Ultraman figure - sort of a re-creation of vintage vinyl Ultraman with removable helmet.

Next is The Chogokin Mini Mazinger figure. It is still brand new when I bought it.

Now for my favorite haul - Vintage 1978 3" Shogun Warriors Great Mazinger. This is new, unopen with a very nice unpunched card. The box is different from the US version. This is made in HongKong.

Another surprise find is the vintage 1989 Bandai Ultraman Jet VTol. I wanted to get this last year from eBay. I asked the seller if it's diecast or plastic, he said it's plastic. So I abandon the idea of getting it. But when I saw this in HK, the shop owner opened it to let me inspect. I found out that lower part of the vehicle is actually diecast!. I got this for a good price too.

Press the fin on top of the Jet, compartment opens to reveal missile launcher. It shoot those little red missiles.

The Jet can be switched to a different mode by attaching a back fin thrusters thingy.

Unlike my previous trip to HK where I would buy a lot of toys, I find myself more picky and more focused this time around. Thiis trip is a good break from a hectic work life... :)

Here are the places I visited:

(a.k.a where to buy toys in hong Kong )

Wan Chai - there's a street with 4-5 toy shops - diecast cars, Japanese toys

Ins Point Mongkok - few levels of toy shops - lot's of Lego, Japanese toys and vintage toys. This is place is recommended!!

Richmond Ctr Mongkok - few levels of toy shops - USA toys and vintage Japanese toys

CTMA Mongkok - few levels of toy shops - Hot toys and Japanese toys

Sino Ctr Mongkok - few levels of toys, yes...lots of Japanese toys also..
