VINTAGE SEVEN 1983 AURA BATTLER DUNBINE & DRUMLO FIGURES

I thought that Dunbine was from the Gundam series because I saw its model kits together with other Gundam kits. After purchasing this set, I found out that Dunbine is from an anime of its own called Aura Battler Dunbine. I've never watch the anime before. I got this set for a very good price from a Hong Kong seller. At first I thought it was diecast because a different seller indicated these as mini chogokins but it turn out to be made of plastic only. These toys are made by 'Seven' and they are cheap toys sold in train stations as an alternative to their ST (standard) or DX (deluxe) version.

Even though they are cheap toys, they are made with reasonable quality plastic and comes with some fun play features. Let'c check out Dunbine first.

Dunbine comes with a backpack with wings, sword and a super tiny pilot. The wings, sword and his chest piece are made of greyish translucent plastic. He also comes with a mini card.

The chest piece can be detach and the pilot fits inside.

He has a pop-out wings feature on his backpack.

Overall Dunbine looks pretty good.

Articulation - head turns L to R, his arms swivels up and down only and not front and back, which is a bummer. He has swivel legs and knees. These are all friction joints - it will get loose if played too much.

Now let's take a look at Drumlo. Based on snippets I've watched on Youtube, Drumlo is piloted by a lady and is the opponent of Dunbine.

Drumlo comes with a back piece, 2 missiles and a mini card.

His wings are made of flimsy plastic film.

His stomach piece detaches to reveal a missile firing weapon. It comes with 2 missiles.

Drumlo articulation - arms and legs swivel front and back and his claws swivel as well. His back piece can flip up and down.

Size comparison with a Lego mini figure. Lego mini figures are 1.5" tall, so Dunbine and Drumlo is roughly 3" tall, twice the height of the minifig.

These are made in Japan and they are quite rare. eBay prices are about USD55 for the set.
