From the year 2002 to 2003, Bandai issued some very cool Gashapon toys which are based on the old Popy Chogokin toys. Bandai made these toys very small (see comparison picture below, height is a little taller than an AA battery) and some of these are made of diecast. What's even cooler is Bandai also made their original vintage packaging. I collected Part 1 to 5. Note: Bandai also made Gashapon toys based on the vintage Popy Vehicles and also a combiner robot. This review have lots of pictures, so it's divided into few parts.

Two of these toys didn't come with packaging because of their size. They are Grendizer's Spacer and Daikyu Maryu.

Let's start with Mazinger and Great Mazinger. Their paint job is top notch! The lower legs of the Mazingers are made of diecast.

They are quite heavy for such a small toy! Together they look stunning!

Next is Grendizer which is my favourite of the lot. I collected these sets because of him!

Grendizer's weapons can be held or placed on his shoulder. The lower legs are diecast.

The spacer fits Grendizer! Grendizer's head can be tilted up in spacer mode!

Spacer comes with two weapons. There are no diecast part in the Spacer.

Raideen is the 2nd weakest toy in the line. There are two versions, the regular and black. Why is it the 2nd weakest - first there are no diecast content, second the small parts keep falling off, third the face plate doesn't fit on the regular Raideen (true for mine, not sure if it's defective)It's disappointing because Raideen is one of the popular super robots of the 70s.

Raideen can transform to Bird Mode.
