Even though this is from the Batman Returns toyline, the play features are actually based on the original 1989 Batman movie. I guess Kenner might have released a version of this in their Dark Knight toyline though I haven't seen one before. This is a huge fold-out playset featuring Wayne Manor, Batcave and a Penguin Hideout. It is packed with loads of play features! Check out the box art.

What's interesting about this playset is that it is quite film accurate. Here are some comparisons between movie and the playset.

The Wayne Manor exterior. OK... Kenner did try to make it look like the one in the movie. See the windows pattern and the 'castle-type' roof details. Also similar is the entrance and the balcony.

The playset even have a place for Bruce Wayne to hang upside down but not as in the movie. It was close though not entirely accurate.

The Bat computer looks similar to the one in the movie. Kenner also made it a point to make a turtle-neck shirt for the Bruce Wayne figure. Now that is attention to detail!. The head sculpt looks good too.

This Bat vault is based on the first movie. In Batman Returns, the vault is different.

Even the action features of the playset mimicks the movie.

Entering the Batcave via a secret door.

The garage door swings open for the Batmobile to go through.

The Penguin's Hideout section. This was originally the Axis Chemical section from the first movie. it has been repainted white.

There's a breakaway ramp that drops villains into a black cannister. It was supposed to simulate the Joker falling down to the pool of acid in the first movie.

This is a beautiful piece and a must-have if you like Kenner Batman figures. It has been re-issued many times (i.e. Batman Forever, Batman & Robin, Batman TAS...etc) so it's quite easy to find in eBay if you don't mind the color variations. However this Batman Returns version is more difficult to come by, especially mint in box. EBay Prices ranges from USD300-500 for a mint in box. Another thing to consider is the shipping cost, this playset is huge!
