Macross or Robotech in the US was my favorite Saturday morning cartoon when I was a kid. I think the storyline is more 'matured'. Here's the original Takatoku Battroid Valkyrie VF-1S, piloted by Roy Focker. This is toy is made of lots of diecast, an earned a nickname "Chunky Monkey". It transforms into all 3 modes - plane, gerwalk and robot.

It comes with lots of stickers, missiles, instruction sheet and a catalog. Notice that the box shows Hikaru Ichiyo and not Roy Fokker. That's because Takatoku didnt believe that a dead guy will sell the toy. Roy Fokker died in the animation. After Takatoku folded, Bandai acquired some of these molds and reissued them. Another interesting fact is that the vintage Transformer Jetfire actually uses the same mold.
